"Chenard Walcker is a French samplecore artist layering large slabs of pop music, obscure funk, soundtracks, etc. The site offers many albums worth of material as free downloads, as an anti-copyright stance. He also publishes the Free Sample Zone, which is all his material under several monikers...." -- official website

Chenard is the prolific visual and musical collage artist who operated the Free Sample Zone netlabel with 50+ releases available for download. When that domain expired, Oddio Overplay created this mirror for the netlabel with the hope that Chenard's work will reach more listeners.

Chenard Walcker - We Are The Monster [fsz021]
(January 3, 2005)
oh lordy, trouble so hard
when you're monsters
don't nobody know my troubles but God
we are the monster

went down the hill, the other day
my soul got happy and stayed all day

oh lordy, trouble so hard
when you're monsters
don't nobody know my troubles but God
we are the monster

went in the room, didn't stay long,
looked on the bed and brother was dead

oh lordy, trouble so hard
when you're monsters
oh lordy, trouble so hard
bye the monster

The Socks - Boots [fsz022]
(January 9, 2005)

These boots are made for dancing. They feature R'n'B crap mainstream voices re-orchestrated. So if you don't like the tunes, just tell The Socks they suck!

15 other tunes built-up upon that same idea were released on other Chenard Walcker releases.

The Walcker Crew - Rip Hop [fsz023]
(January 16, 2005)

Second release by the Walcker Crew, Rip Hop was created during a party for the new year eve of 2004 in Istanbul, with a nice belly dancer who sings here. It was reworked one year later, using some more cut-up techniques.

At the party, a dance was improvised by Chenard and his guys with all the ladies from the audience. Some of them were a bit frightened!

I Martelli Pneumatici - Conchiglia [fsz024]
(January 17, 2005)

The members of the combo 'I Martelli Pneumatici' (The Spledgehammers) are sicilian and italian cut & paste activists that punctualy worked with Chenard Walcker. They spent a week together in the south of Italy during the summer 2004. Apart from tearing their pants at polpetta parties and dancing in empty swimming pools, they also did those five tracks.

They decided not to release anything else together after they received threats from an organization called 'la Piovra'.

Oscar And The Jets - Insane Baby [fsz025]
(January 20, 2005)

Another album featuring 13 new versions of the song 'Brown Baby' originaly sung by Oscar Brown Jr. That's what you can call insanity, considering that Chenard Walcker has already made about 20 other versions, using that same voice.

Chenard Walcker - Let Them Drink Sand [fsz026]
(January 21, 2005)

The 3 tunes are based upon a song by Philip Judd and sung by Chielie, lead singer of Yoghurt. Chenard Walcker brought some electric meat to fit the lyrics:

"You act as though
You are the blind man who's crying
Crying 'bout all the virgins that are dying
In your habitual dreams
You know, it seems you need more sleep
But like a parrot in a flaming tree
I know it's pretty hard to see
And I'm beginning to wonder if it's time for a change
But still you try like the fat boy
Dancing Gershwin's blues
But you'd rather sit at home and watch the news
And I'm beginning to wonder if it's time for a change
I'm beginning to wonder if it's time for a change"

Chenard Walcker - Kalifornia [fsz027]
(January 22, 2005)

Kali is a destructive and creative aspect of God as the Divine Mother in Hinduism. She destroys only to recreate. Kalifornia, dedicated to Kali, was created on that very principle.

Her name seems to be a female version of the word 'kala' (Sanskrit for 'dark' or 'time'- time in this form being a euphemism for death); it also means Black Female, in contrast to her consort, Shiva, who is white; and Kali is the common name for Energy in her form as Shiva's wife, or Shakti. Kali is naked exept her skirt of human arms, and her necklace of fifty human heads. Fifty is the number of letters in the Sanskrit alphabet, from whose sounds Brahma created the world.

Kalifornia is sung by Tony Scott, Asha Bosle, Yogesh and Nida Fazli.

Chenard Walcker - Testez Votre Chaine Hi-Fi Avec... [fsz028]
(March 3, 2002)

This imaginary vinyl album is meant to test your stereo pick-up equipment. Contrary to what the soft voice sugests to you all along, there is no passive listening.

'Testez...' was created by Chenard Walcker in march 2002, but it was only released in early 2005 by the Free Sample Zone.

The Walcker Crew - OK Robot [fsz029]
(February 1, 2005)

Warning : These are metal replica collector toys. Not intended for use by children. As they may have sharp edges.

The Sand - Deck Honey [fsz030]
(February 2, 2005)

Helen Merrill would surely have felt funny about those 4 new versions of 'My Funny Valentine'. The voice was found on her delicious album 'A Shade Of Difference' (1968). Here, her voice meets some false funky drops orchestras buit up by the Sand, who you might also know as Chenard. Anyway, go out and buy the original lp's by Helen Merrill.
